How to share one calendar between Google and Apple households

Mixed households are the norm: one parent on iPhone, one on Android, a teenager with a school Google account. Apple and Google calendar sharing both work well inside their own ecosystem and badly across the fence.

The approach that works

• Pick one neutral shared calendar that both sides can read and write. That's the family source of truth.
• Subscribe that calendar to each person's existing calendar using its secret iCal link, so nobody has to abandon what they already use.
• Export the shared calendar back out as an ICS feed so it also shows inside Google Calendar or the iPhone Calendar app.

Getting your Google Calendar link

In Google Calendar on desktop, open Settings, choose the calendar in the left sidebar, scroll to 'Secret address in iCal format' and copy it. Treat that link like a password — anyone with it can read the calendar.

Getting your iCloud calendar link

In the Calendar app on Mac or iCloud.com, right-click the calendar, choose Share Calendar, tick Public Calendar and copy the webcal link.

Then bring both into one view

In OurNest, open Settings and use Connect a calendar to paste either link. Events appear alongside the family's own events, colour-coded to whoever they belong to, and refresh automatically.
